Hmm... and why might we want iTunes (proper) on an iPod? Maybe to download music directly, as in accessing iTMS over WiFi? So, maybe this new iPod will have a full screen, which will be enough to provide a more substantial GUI, and allow for an implementation of iTMS directly on the iPod. This would be crucial to having a functional WiFi iPod, as well as having a good video iPod. Sounds good to me!

It'll never happen because it's so counter-intuitive just to save from scratching the screen, but it's an interesting idea none-the-less.
Actually, that (and not smudging the screen) would be side-benefits - the main benefit is you can use the on-screen controls without your fingers and hand obscuring them.
Generally, most touch-screens tend to have large controls as it's difficult to accurately press small controls when your hand is (inevitably) covering them. Having the touch/motion sensors at the back would obliviate this problem and make it possible to have smaller (and thus, more) controls on screen, as needed.

Well, we can only hope that they've been a bit more sufficiently tested. Also, if the enclosure and internals haven't changed much, most of the issues should be out of the way. Yes, EVEREYTHING is a risk. :)

I buy very, very few $1.29 songs, but I've bought much less music from itunes since that price went into effect.
I really hope this does push Apple into cutting their prices back down to .99 and cheaper. I do not know anything about digital rights etc., but I do know that the higher price tier made me retreat from iTunes pretty quick.

Having worked very closely with the head engineers of AT&T, I do feel sorry for them. As someone stated earlier, that are spending billions to upgrade the network, but all that money will only meet current demand in some areas. The iPhone is such an incredible success that AT&T never had a chance. The same would be said about Verizon had they got the exclusive contract. If you want to lay the blame at anyones feet, it should be Apple. They should have made a CDMA version and split the load between the networks.
You have a point, but Apple didn't necessarily want an exclusive carrier. That does nothing for Apple's business. AT&T obviously paid for Apple's exclusivity.
I understand that AT&T has a problem, and they are trying to fix the problem. But they have made TONS OF MONEY off people switching from Verizon/Sprint/etc. It may take time for that money to become new towers and infrastructure, but they cannot say that there is no problem.
AT&T had to drop the "Fewest Dropped Calls" ad campaign because it turned out to be mostly false. "More Bars in More Places" means nothing when everyone else is using all those bars.

In think the main point of view of many people here is that when Microsoft makes long-term plans, it's because they're planning to drive the competition to the ground with the help of a big pile of cash instead of innovation and good products.
The fact that they started this whole new thing by dropping their own PlaysForSure DRM isn't a good indicator (for the users AND commercial partners - they have to switch hardware again).
Apple, on the other hand, has switched three times (68K->PPC, OS 9->OS X, PPC->Intel) and has always tried to keep compatibility with the previous system. A first generation iPod can play iTMS-bought tunes, too (unless I'm mistaken).
I tend to agree with you, but that is just business, and Microsoft is good at it.
